In the end, it's really the things that only Biffy can do - Simon's accent and voice in general, the skew-whiff guitars, the folky twists in the middle eight - which lift this from the workaday into the astonishing. OK, so they don't get very FAR into the astonishing, this time around, but they're pretty damn close, and it's their words which fuelled the rocket. Sign in or register to comment. I think I am a "die-hard fan", I first saw Biffy in and what drew me to the band originally was the way they mixed their unusual time signatures, bizarre song structures and occasional screaming with a good sense of pop; some big choruses, great melodies and memorable lyrics.
With the last two albums they've certainly taken huge steps with the pop aspect of their sound, and this song is one of several which prove that, but that's no bad thing and their albums retain enough of their own individuality to hopefully appeal to all of their many fans. Bands need to evolve their sound over time to stay relevant and stay interesting, and Biffy are doing that perfectly, Only Revolutions is a fantastic album and I for one can't wait to hear what they do next.
Mon the Biff, as they say. Complain about this comment Comment number 3. When I saw a Biffy song review as the latest on here, I was shocked. Won't chart well as a result. Infact I've heard it so much Im kinda bored of it now. Not a massive Biffy fan. I never got into their earlier according to music snobs much better stuff, only started listening when they released Puzzle.
They are good, but I'm not that fussed. I did like this song 3 months ago though. Complain about this comment Comment number 4. Biffy and their management ,and everyone at Warner Brothers and 14th Floor Records wanted to see me in the video for Captain , being whipped on a boat and crying out in pain , for the duration of the song.
It was a polite no. Simon looks far better bare chested , than I do anyway. I also had the impression , that they would have wanted at least a hundred takes until they were happy with my performance too!
My Interpretation I absolutely love this song. It's epic. I think it's about a couple who haven't actually broken up yet, but they have quite a few problems in their relationship.
She always knocked him back or maybe she does things which hurts him, but ultimately he wants the relationship to work. And because he is so in love with her he's willing to take all the bad times because he thinks they are meant to be.
He knows that there are obvious flaws in the relationship "our broken fairytale, so hard to hide" but he wants everything to be okay because he's willing to try and ignore all the bad parts. Basically, when you argue with someone you love, once everything has settled down again you feel closer to eachother because you've just wasted time arguing. It's like the calm after the storm. He's basically saying that everytime they argue, they always work through it, and if they didn't, then the relationship would end "if we don't we'll always be apart".

Dunno whether it's just coz I'm a scientist, but I reckon that the chorus uses a chemical reaction as a metaphor for a relationship: "When we collide we come together; If we don't we'll always be apart; I'll take a bruise, I know you're worth it, So when you hit me, hit me hard.
So I guess he believes that the relationship is worth all the pain that comes with it, which he feels is inevitable, perhaps even necessary. Give me your best shot! General Comment "cause you said love had let us go against what our future is for many of horror" Makes a little more sense for the unknown part? I think this song is triumphant; you say, "i love you boy.
OR, sometimes he does doubt her love because of their conflicts, but for the most part he convinces himself that she does love him. Just screams about the victory of love in the relationship, that they can overcome the difficulties; when we collide we come together, if we don't we'll always be apart i'll take a bruise, i know you're worth it when you hit me, hit me hard. Though I don't know why They stop short of using the 'happily ever after' line, but I hope hope hope that it'll stay like this forever.
General Comment feet cast in solid stone, i got gilligan's eyes Williy Gilligan from gilligans island is described in these words: Despite his bumbling nature, Gilligan has an innate innocence of character that causes the others to forgive his mistakes. Feet cast in solid stone: Where I think he means he is stuck in this position, that he badly wants to get out of.. I got gilligan's eye : Maybe Simon is referring to willy gilligans character, meaning he bleeds with innocence innocent eyes , hoping she will forgive him for his mistakes So I think he messed up badly, and is willing to do anything to get her "back".
But she has a hard time forgiving him. She's still there, even though he can sense her feelings slowly fading away. It reminds me of my ex, I didn't spend enough time with her. I was far to busy, wile she wasn't, meaning she just waited for me all day I will however keep searching. When I do find it, I will post it on here. The basic jist this passage is that, hes down in a hole with concrete boot on with no way out, and he hopes it will stay dry because he knows he has the ability to flood it with his tears which could lead to his death.
Love Hurts. I hope this interpretation helps. Biffy wrote this song about his dad abusing him because Biffy's mother Eleanor died of cancer. Biffy thinks his father doesn't love him even know his father does love him but he has just lost his wife.
Biffy is taking the abuse that his dad offers him because he realises the pain he's going through so he lets his dad take it out on him. Despite the fact that his father abuses him, Biffy still loves his dad and would do anything for him. Proof that his dad abused him. Biffy feels like his father abusing him is the only way they can bond and if they don't see each other his father would have to go through the pain on his own so Biffy wanted his dad to take all the pain and anger out on him, because Biffy knew that it could make his father feel better or that he can take his anger out.
Biffy is implying that when his dad hits him he wants his dad to hit him hard so he can take all the anger away. Gilligan is a character in a tv programme who was accused of having 'glazed eyes' and an innocent view of the world.
Biffy means that he was an innocent person but got abused even though he did nothing wrong -'cause you sat alone. Biffy is implying that his dad had no one to love because his wife just died so he'd try and comfort him by letting his dad abuse him.
For me, this song reminds me of a past experience with a violent boyfriend. I don't think that this is what is was meant for, but the lyrics relate well to the feelings that I went through. This to me brings back the emotion of my boyfriend telling me he loved me but being told by my friends that he cleraly didn't otherwise he wouldnt treat me in the way he did. I would constantly go back to my boyfriend and I would always trust that he wouldnt hurt me again.
I think this is self explanitory, the scars that he left on me. Our relationship was very clearly broken and messed up, all of my friends and family could see this, and I couldnt hide the pain he had caused. No matter how many times I would get hurt, I couldnt see myself with any other man. To be frank, the only time that I felt truly connected to him was when we were having sex. I felt that if I didn't get intimate with him then we would constantly be arguing and would feel apart from each other.
I didn't mind getting hurt by him. I loved him and it was always worth the pain just so that I oculd be with him.
