What is the engine configuration? Peak power between these two engines is surprisingly close since the VE makes up to hp per liter naturally aspirated.
Of course, peak power only tells a very small portion of the story and while the VE makes a lot of power for a naturally aspirated engine, it suffers compared to the DET when it comes to torque, where the DET makes an extra 50lb-ft.
The big reason the VE can make so much power while being naturally aspirated is its superior cylinder head. The only difference in the Nissan system is that the intake and exhaust cams are triggered independently for a flatter, more consistent power band. When paired with the VTC on the intake camshaft, the low port head offered improved response while delivering greater peak power compared to the previous SR20 engines.
That being said, you can make a DET head flow a lot of more than it does from the factory with some port work. Log in. Forgot password or user name? Which is best.

I am currently throwing out my lexus v8 into my mgb roadster plan due to way too many complications and loss of interest. I have decided i am going to go the sr20det conversion as i have already seen pictures of it done before and I can complete it with alot less money.
Could someone please help and tell me which sr20det is better and why. It is all rather confusting to be fair. Not sure why nissan changed the port design, from a performance perspective the inlet ports found on the Red top black top straight cam high ports whatever you want to call it look better.
