Manfreddi and Johnson told Skipper and Kowalski to escape, after all it was them they wanted. Skipper reluctantly agreed, and as he and Kowalski hid in the bushes, Manfreddi and Johnson made a break 4 it and hi-jacked a car. Of course, Skipper and Kowalski followed.
Well, they ran into an elephant foot thinking they would just barely scrape into it at most, and, well, BOOM!!! The explosion itself didnt kill them. But, it did provide the distraction their enemy needed. The Chinstrap Sisters ripped them apart before Skipper had a chance to react and save his fellow soldiers. Kowalski knew it was too late, and held back Skipper so that they wouldnt meet the same fate.
But, the pirrahnas were still hungry. The two surviving penguins had to flee, leaving behind the mutilated bodies of Manfreddi and Johnson. As they passed back through Equador, they recieved a manilla envelope post marked from Manilla. Inside were the few remains of their old comrades. Skipper and Kowalski buried what was left of them with a teaspoon there in Equador and proceeded on their way home with nothing but memories of their once-close friends.

They were prisoners at a POW camp who were killed by German gunfire early on when they tried to make an escape.

However, they have somehow injured their eyes. Manfredi the larger sized penguin has lost his left foot, now replaced by a stick while Johnson the Kowalski-sized penguin broke his right flipper and seems to have a burn on his body. Johnson noticed the penguins and Doris "flying out" of Seaville and banged on the glass panel for help. Unfortunately, for them, the penguins and Doris never noticed their desperate pleas, and swam away, saying they were never going to come back ever again.
